The ploy works, Charlie is popular and even dating Susan (Kat Dennings) who just happens to be Principal Gardner's (Robert Downey Jr.) daughter. But, in dating Susan, has Charlie gone too far in getting attention from Principal Gardner, and will his activities be exposed?

Following her heroin-addicted mother's (Jennifer Tilly) death, city-girl Jeliza-Rose (Jodelle Ferland) begins a new life with her father, Noah (Jeff Bridges), at her deceased grandmother's home in the country. But Noah also is a junkie, and soon after the move he overdoses and dies. Now Jeliza-Rose is left in a house with her father's decaying body, and she starts communicating with her four Barbie dolls' heads and her young, mentally challenged neighbor Dickens (Brendan Fletcher). They are watched over by Dickens' sister Dell (Janet McTeer), a veiled taxidermist with her own plans for Noah's carcass.
