Seventeen-year-old Toby (Kevin Zegers) is being held in a New York prison for drug possession when he is released into the custody of born-again Christian transsexual Bree (Felicity Huffman) who is saving money for the operation that will finally make him a woman. What Toby does not understand is that Bree is really his birth-father, but the two set off on a father-son, cross-country road trip, and discoveries lie ahead. Two Academy Award nominations were received, including Best Actress (Felicity Huffman).
