The excellent story is about tracking down a Communist plot to take over the U.S. Government. Angela Lansbury received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress in her role of Shaw's mother.

  A mixed-blood Indian rodeo champ, Joe Lightcloud (Elvis Presley), convinces a congressman to give him assistance in the form of a bull and twenty heifers so that he can build a herd. Then, Joe throws a party for his Navajo friends, and the bull, instead of a heifer, is slaughtered and barbequed. Joe does manage to get another bull, but that just leads to more problems. By story's end, Joe has romanced Mamie (Quentin Dean) and even manages to borrow a rodeo bull, win a big stake, and invest in a new herd. Along the way, Joe sings "Dominick," "Stay Away, Joe," "Lovely Mamie," and "All I Needed Was the Rain."
