College friends–Ash (Bruce Campbell), Linda (Betsy Baker), Scott (Hal Delrich), Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss), and Shelly (Sarah York)–are vacationing in a cabin deep in the woods. They find a book in their cabin with a tape that translates incantations from an ancient Sumerian Book of the Dead. Soon, Ash realizes that, one-by-one, his cohorts are being possessed by demons that have been called up by playing the tape. Now, Ash is left alone to fight the demons. This low-budgeter has plenty of gore and is followed by two sequels.
