Rinaldi (Adolphe Menjou) becoming jealous and having Catherine transferred to Milan. When Frederic is wounded and taken to Catherine's hospital, the romance resumes. Later, Henry returns to the war while the now-pregnant Catherine travels to Switzerland. Rinaldi intercepts Catherine's letters to Frederic, but when the war ends, Henry goes to Switzerland in search of Catherine.

But, when Frankenstein's monster (Bela Lugosi) is discovered in a block of ice, Larry chips him out, and a battle ensues.

Geoffrey's widow (Gale Sondergaard) appears on the scene and says she has a letter from Leslie inviting Geoffrey to visit and that he was Leslie's lover. Leslie pays the $10,000 in blackmail money that is being demanded for the letter. The trial convenes, and her lawyer's (James Stephenson) defense proves Leslie innocent. Now, her husband Robert (Herbert Marshall) discovers that $10,000 is missing from his bank account, Leslie confesses, and Robert forgives her. But, everyone has not forgiven her, and a surprise visitor is lurking in Leslie's garden. The film received seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Actress (Davis), Supporting Actor (Stephenson), and Director. Remade in 1947 as "The Unfaithful" and in 1982 as "The Letter" for TV.

  Almost unknown this love story fantasy deserves to be rated among the best to come out of America. All performances are a credit to the author. Rarely if ever will you see a script with such a sincere meaning of the word 'Hello'. The film score enhances the tale as all great films do.

  During World War I, while taking cover under Waterloo Bridge during an air raid in London, chorus girl Myra (Mae Clarke) meets Canadian soldier Roy Cronin (Douglass Montgomery). Not realizing that Myra is a prostitute, Roy falls in love with her, and they make plans to be married–despite Myra's concerns about not admitting to Roy that she is a prostitute. Roy does find out about her past but still loves Myra. It is time for Roy to return to the battlefield, and they share a tearful farewell at Waterloo Bridge. Later, during another air raid, Myra is again near Waterloo Bridge but doesn't take cover and is killed.
