  Poor and homeless Toby Grace (Michael Pitt) wants to become an actor. He befriends NYC tabloid photographer Les Galantine (Steve Buscemi) who teams up with him, offers a job as his assistant, and introduces him to casting agent Dana (Gina Gershon). Dana helps Toby with his acting career, and Toby meets pop star K'Harma Leeds (Alison Lohman) at a press event. Toby and K'Harma get together, and now, with his connections, Toby is on the verge of gaining celebrity status, but that leaves Les back in the shadows.

  This remake of the 1964 film about the United States accidentally dropping a hydrogen bomb over the Soviet Union features George Clooney as Col. As the plot unfolds, the U.S. President (Richard Dreyfuss) uses his translator (Noah Wyle) to try to convince the Soviet Premier that the whole operation is a mistake and that the United States does not want an all-out war.

Problem number one is their failing memories–they can't remember the name of the town to which they are driving. Other problems include getting sprayed by a crop duster, the car breaking down, and meeting Thelma (Christine Baranski) and Holly (Jean Smart) at a bar. But, despite all of the interruptions, they finally do arrive at the wedding.

They are able to pay off the loan shark and set up shop in the house. When the owner's parents (Robert Loggia and Doris Belack) come to visit, they believe the pair are house sitters and now the fun really begins as the "heroes" get in over their heads.

The show that Michael works on becomes a hit, and he reaches celebrity status in the guise of a woman. But, complications ensue when Michael's relationship with his girlfriend Sandy (Teri Garr) fails, and Michael falls for his co-star Julie (Jessica Lange) who believes that Michael/Dorothy is a woman and, in turn, tries to fix Michael up with her widowed father, Les (Charles Durning). An Oscar for Best Supporting Actress went to Jessica Lange. The film also received nine Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Actor (Hoffman), Supporting Actress (Garr), and Director.    1 User Review
