  Wallace Beery plays old salt Bill Johansen who is being pursued by Marge Cavendish (Marjorie Main) who would like to marry him. When not trying to escape the clutches of Marge, Bill must deal with 12-year-old Virginia (Virginia Weidler)–the young girl he has just learned is his daughter. Marge loans Bill money to purchase his dream schooner that is on the auction block, and the adventures begin. But, after more than a few complications, Bill returns home to a smiling Virginia and marries Marge.

  Filmed during World War II, this movie is about Nazi spies trying to get their hands on microfilm containing secret documents hidden in a matchbox. A British clerk is killed while carrying the matchbox to Washington, D.C., and the matchbox has passed through several hands. Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) travel to Washington, DC, and, in the process of their investigation, they learn that the matchbox has ended up in the hands of socialite Nancy Partridge (Marjorie Lord). They come to her rescue and sleuth out the villains.
