This is the third film of Director Romero's zombie series. The first two, "Night of the Living Dead" and "Dawn of the Dead," were near-classics. A small group of scientists and military personnel are all who are left of "live" people and are holed up underground. They seek a way to reverse the process that produced the zombies and bring them back to life.

A Pittsburgh steel worker by day, Alex Owens (Jennifer Beals) is a bar room dancer by night. Her dream is to study dance and, as she dances at the bar room, she dreams of being selected to study at the local ballet company. Her boyfriend is her wealthy boss Nick (Michael Nouri), and he gives Alex financial help toward her goal. Alex does come to terms with her dreams and finds the inner strength to turn them into reality. The music makes the movie, and "Flashdance...What a Feeling" won the Academy Award for Best Song.
