  Recently released from prison, Git Hynes (Peter McDonald) gets into a fight with gangsters and, as a result of his actions, owes the crime boss Tom French (Tony Doyle) a favor: take Bunny Kelly (Brendan Gleeson) along to snatch Frank Grogan (Peter Caffrey) out of enemy hands and bring him back to French. BUT Grogan is a reluctant passenger on the return trip and tries to play Hynes against Kelly and vice versa.

They succeed financially, but will their friendship endure success? The previous films taken from Doyle's trilogy are "The Commitments" and "The Snapper."
