He was arrested while sailing to Canada with his mistress (Samantha Eggar) and returned to London for his trial and sentencing–all the while protesting his innocence.

Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif were nominated for Best Actor and Supporting Actor Oscars.

Joe rises to power in the company and in politics. He is elected to a seat on the town council where he votes for a slum clearance, which is against company interests.
