61*   2001     3 stars    TV, 130 min.
Genre: Drama
Director: Billy Crystal
Cast: Barry Pepper, Thomas Jane, Christopher McDonald, Bruce McGill, Seymour Cassel, Bob Gunton, Donald Moffat, Jennifer Crystal Foley, Joe Grifasi, Paul Borghese

This is the story of the "M & M Boys," Roger Maris (Barry Pepper) and Mickey Mantle (Thomas Jane), as each goes for the baseball home run record–61 homers–in 1961. Mantle, the flashy, outspoken heir to Joe DiMaggio and Maris, the quiet family man, hit it off as roommates while they vie for the record. Whether you're a Yankee fan or hater, you should enjoy this good made-for-HBO sports story, though there are a few slow moments.

Jason Bourne (Richard Chamberlain) washes ashore near a French village. He had been shot several times, but a retired doctor brings him back to health. As he searches for his identity, he is followed by assassins, and wherever he goes he is recognized. It appears that he may be a feared terrorist. This TV miniseries is a good (and faithful) rendition of Robert Ludlum's novel.

What are all of those recognizable names doing in a Troma film? It's really bad, but typical Troma, and avoids bomb status by it's funny ineptness. This spoof of 1950s' monster/sci-fi/horror films follows a "mild-mannered" reporter, a professor, and the professor's son as they try to get to the bottom of why dead people (and a dog) are turning up in closets. After a few more murders, they find the cause to be a monster. Now, how to get rid of it–bombs, xylophone playing, etc. don't work. Maybe the army will have to destroy all closets.
