Michael uses the invention to get closer to his estranged wife Karen (Natalie Wood), and others begin to abuse it. Representing the government, Alex Terson (Cliff Robertson) steps in to take over the project. Problems ensue, and, after one worker tapes the experience of his own death, Michael is determined to play back the tape to honor his memory.
