His wife drops the attempted murder charge, and he tries to get a further reduction of charges by ratting on his cellmates.

Backed by Duke Ellington's jazz score, the music includes "Take the A Train," "Sophisticated Lady," "Mood Indigo," "Paris Stairs," and "Nite." The film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Musical Score.

An excellent thriller; one of Director Claude Chabrol's best films.
