Through the use of motion-capture technology, the real actors in this film are transformed into digitally animated visions capable of performing powerful action sequences. The story is based on the Old English poem, which is set in sixth-century Denmark where King Hrothgar (voice of Anthony Hopkins) is in trouble when the monster Grendel (voice of Crispin Glover) declares war on his kingdom. Beowulf (voice of Ray Winstone) arrives on the scene and eventually does slay Grendel but then finds himself tempted, seduced, and corrupted by a water demon who is Grendel's Mother (voice of Angelina Jolie). Beowulf fathers a son with Grendel's Mother, and now, years later, he is destined to fight to the death his dragon son.
