He reads about a robbery in which $209,000 was stolen and two robbers were slain but still keeps his secret cache hidden. Problems ensue when the third robber, Carl Farrow (Dick Contino), returns to the scene and finds the case missing. Now, both the police and Farrow set out to find the stolen money

  Auto factory worker Frank Taylor (Humphrey Bogart) is a hard worker who wants to become a foreman. The job opening occurs, but Polish-American immigrant Joe Dombrowski (Henry Brandon) is named the new foreman. Now hatred takes over, and Frank is recruited to join a secret White supremacist organization, The Black Legion. Frank and the Legion members burn down the Dombrowski family's chicken farm, and the family leaves town. Frank now gets the job of foreman, but tragedies lie ahead–beginning with his wife Ruth (Erin O'Brien-Moore) leaving when his job and the atrocities he commits with the Black Legion take up most of his time. Now, matters go from bad to worse as murder and a prison sentence follow with the Black Legion behind the whole thing.

Michael O'Rourke (Ward Bond) discover the bodies of mutilated soldiers murdered by the Apaches, Thursday decides to stir up the Indians for his own fame and fortune. One of his officers, Capt. Kirby York (John Wayne), tries to teach him the realities of co-existing with the Indians and tells him that the real problem is not the Apaches, but, instead, it is the corrupt Indian agents promoting the problems. York's words go unheeded, and Thursday leads his men into a disastrous situation after which he is labeled a hero by the press.

Fields) and fakes a marriage to him. Now, they return to town as a "respectable" couple, and the fun begins. Just watching the cavorting of W.C. Fields and Mae West in the same film makes this movie worthwhile.
