Bernard Bottle (Alan Cumming) is having a bad day, and even loses his job as an art dealer, when he rubs a tarnished lamp and releases a 2,000-year-old genie, Josephus (Lenny Henry). The two become friends. It is Christmas, and Josephus can give Bernard anything he wishes. Troubles arise when Bernard wishes for the "Mona Lisa," and the police think that he stole it, but Josephus' magic powers take care of the problem.
