Jason Bourne (Richard Chamberlain) washes ashore near a French village. He had been shot several times, but a retired doctor brings him back to health. The problem: Jason does not have any idea who he is or what happened to him. He also has no idea why a microfilm containing a Swiss bank account code is imbedded in his thigh. As he searches for his identity, he is followed by assassins, and wherever he goes he is recognized. It appears that he may be a feared terrorist. Imperfect for sure, but a classroom in comic timing1fatts 03/14/2007
The third act is unnecessary and unbelievable. The finale is so artificial that it passeth all justification.
But Bogdanovich is a master of comic timing. (Watch the opening scenes of "What's Up Doc?" sometime.) And this movie is worth the price of admission just to watch the timing in the first two acts. The actors are one-dimensional, but it is a farce, and they are meant to be one-dimensional. We expected this level of work from Carol Burnett -- frankly, we saw it every week on TV for years -- bit John Ritter is a revelation as a physical comic and Christopher Reeve is really quite good as an understated comic foil.
Watch the first half anyway. If fact, watch it twice.

Just like in "The Prince and the Pauper," this movie goes with the premise of a rich man, Louis Winthorpe III (Dan Aykroyd)–this time, a Philadelphia commodity broker–changing places with a poor man, Billy Ray Valentine (Eddie Murphy), who is a con-artist. The Duke brothers–Randolph and Mortimer (Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche) make a bet on whether or not Louis will resort to crime when he loses his position in life. Throw in lots of good comedy, and you have a film worth watching.
