I think Emilio Estevez had made a powerful film. I hope some day it goes down as one of the greats of American independent filmmaking- which always has different values from the mega-budget "blockbusters", so it needs to be judged on its own terms. In a way, it reminded me of Garden State-simple, elegant and slightly under-drawn figures -just as we all are .I think Estevez captured that characteristic mundanity and chaotic inner-life of the subjects very well. Forget about looking for obvious thematic links between RFK and the disparate characters. It didnt need to be obvious, because at a subconscious level, there was a sense of tension slowly building out of the ordinary grist of daily life- and isnt that just how cataclysmic moments are formed? The ending was so incredibly moving- it was tinged with sentimentality and nostalgia for a lost moment but not at all mawkish, and it was just so sad. Estevez is agreat film maker when he really cares about his subject.

Downey (James Marshall) and Cpl. Dawson (Wolfgang Bodison)–who are accused of murdering a fellow Marine. Kaffee follows Galloway's instructions to look for the truth, and, under questioning, Downey and Dawson reveal that the murder was ordered by Lt. Kendrick (Kiefer Sutherland).
