In the 16th century, Spanish conquistador Gonzalo Pizarro (Alejandro Repulles) is leading his men through the jungles of Peru looking for the fabled cities of gold. Along the way, they must deal with hostile natives, starvation, and disease. Aguirre has a maniacal thirst for glory that turns into insanity with tragic results. Based on the real-life journals of Brother Gaspar de Carvajal (Del Negro) who was a member of Pizarro's mission.
