While taking her conservatory entrance exam, aspiring pianist Melanie Prouvost is distracted when one of the judges, Ariane (Catherine Frot), signs an autograph for a fan. Melanie's loss of concentration results in her failing the test and ends her dream for a music career. Years later, Jean Fouchecourt (Pascal Greggory)–who is a senior partner in the law firm for which Melanie is a file clerk–hires Melanie to be his son's live-in nanny. Jean's wife turns out to be Ariane. But Ariane does not remember Melanie and even employs her as her page turner for the upcoming radio broadcast with her musical trio. Meanwhile, Ariane learns to rely on Melanie who, in turn, waits for the right moment to exploit the situation.
