NYPD officer Jack Mosley (Bruce Willis) is assigned the job of escorting convict Eddie Bunker (Mos Def) from the jail to the courthouse–a mere 16 blocks. If Mosley fails to reach the courthouse by 10:00 A.M., the case will be dismissed, which is exactly what Jack's colleagues want because, as Jack learns while making the delivery, Bunker is scheduled to testify against the police officers. They are determined to kill Bunker before he reaches his destination, and suddenly Jack realizes that the length of those 16 blocks may be endless.
