Roy Knable (John Ritter) is a couch potato using his television set to escape the rigors of life. This creates marital problems because his wife Helen (Pam Dawber) is an achiever in the advertising world. Then, up pops Spike (Jeffrey Jones) making a deal for Roy's soul. Before you can say, "Damn Yankees," Roy and Helen are sucked into the satellite disk where they must survive among the comedy shows, adventure movies, and game shows.

He takes a job in a nursery where he notes that human mulch makes the plants grow faster.
