  William Shakespeare's play is again brought to the screen–this time transplanted from the Forest of Arden to 19th-century Japan. Rosalind (Bryce Dallas Howard) disguises herself as a boy, Ganymede, and, escaping a death threat, leaves the court after her father is banished. Traveling with her are her cousin Celia (Romola Garai) and the court jester Touchstone (Alfred Molina). Along the way, she runs into the man she loves, Orlando (David Oyelowo). Now, Rosalind uses her disguise as Ganymede to test Orlando's love.

  While on a medical mission to Uganda, young Dr. Nicholas Garrigan (James McAvoy) is chosen by new President Idi Amin (Forest Whitaker) to serve as his personal physician. Amin is impressed with Garrigan's medical abilities and also with his Scottish heritage. Garrigan enjoys his new position and apparently is oblivious to the tortures and murders of those opposed to Amin–until he is clued in by British Agent Nigel Stone (Simon McBurney). Garrigan now sees the error of his ways and tries to escape from Uganda alive. Forest Whitaker received an Academy Award Best Actor.

  Set in Chicago's South Side during the 1950s, this story centers on the Younger family and how an insurance check for $10,000 could change their lives. Lena's (Phylicia Rashad) husband has died, and she is waiting for the insurance check. Problems arise when each family member has a different plan for the money. When the check does arrive, Lena buys a house in an all-White neighborhood in Chicago, and the Younger family becomes the first Black family to move in.
