  In the 1800s, John Merrick "The Elephant Man" (John Hurt) suffered from neurofibromatosis, a terribly disfiguring disease and has spent most of his life as a carnival freak. He is befriended by Dr. Frederick Treves (Anthony Hopkins) who sees more in Merrick than his outward appearance. Treves brings Merrick to the hospital where he works, and, for a short time, Merrick gains human dignity. But, Treves begins to question his own motivations after the press learns about Merrick's hospital stay and exploits him. The film received eight Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Actor (John Hurt), and Director.

  Henry Spencer (Jack Nance) is trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic society filled with the smoke and noise of factories surrounding his seedy apartment building. After his girlfriend Mary (Charlotte Stewart) becomes pregnant, she moves in with Henry and delivers their baby who turns out to be a constantly crying, weird-looking mutant. Mary cannot stand the crying and leaves. Henry is now alone with the baby, and it doesn't take long for the weirdness and crying to tip Henry over the line into the realm of insanity. Truly, a cult film.

Later, she and her co-star Devon Berk (Justin Theroux) learn that when an earlier Polish version of the story was being filmed, a gypsy curse led to both of the lead players being murdered, but they continue on with the project. A bad decision as they lose their grasps on reality, and their lives spiral downhill into a nightmare.

Very weird, as we follow Fred into his new adventures with a gangster's moll (Patricia Arquette).

Betty and Rita set out to uncover Rita's identity. At the same time, movie director Adam Kesher (Justin Theroux) experiences problems with his financial backers. By story's end, Betty's, Rita's, and Adam's lives affect each other in such mystifying scenes that the viewer is left to interpret the solutions. David Lynch received a Best Director Oscar nomination.

  In this black-and-white, dream-like film, vampire hunter Dr. Van Helsing (Peter Fonda) has killed Count Dracula, and Dracula's daughter, Nadja (Elina Lowensohn), takes her father's ashes to Brooklyn where she visits her brother Edgar (Jared Harris). Edgar is ill and is being nursed by his live-in lover Cassandra (Suzy Amis). Meanwhile, Van Helsing is on Nadja's trail because he knows that if Dracula's ashes are not properly disposed of, he will come back to life. Van Helsing finds Nadja and kills her, but Nadja has now taken over Cassandra's body, and a new life begins for Nadja.

During the trip, Alvin reminisces, overcomes adversities, and meets friendly strangers. Farnsworth was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor, the oldest actor to have received a Best Actor nomination.

At night, however, drug-addicted Laura hangs out with dope dealer Bobby Briggs (Dana Ashbrook). When Laura's father, Leland (Ray Wise), learns of Laura's double life he goes into a fit of rage, which ends in tragedy for Laura and her friends.
