Treves brings Merrick to the hospital where he works, and, for a short time, Merrick gains human dignity. But, Treves begins to question his own motivations after the press learns about Merrick's hospital stay and exploits him. The film received eight Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Actor (John Hurt), and Director.

Mary cannot stand the crying and leaves. Henry is now alone with the baby, and it doesn't take long for the weirdness and crying to tip Henry over the line into the realm of insanity. Truly, a cult film.

By story's end, Betty's, Rita's, and Adam's lives affect each other in such mystifying scenes that the viewer is left to interpret the solutions. David Lynch received a Best Director Oscar nomination.

Edgar is ill and is being nursed by his live-in lover Cassandra (Suzy Amis). Meanwhile, Van Helsing is on Nadja's trail because he knows that if Dracula's ashes are not properly disposed of, he will come back to life. Van Helsing finds Nadja and kills her, but Nadja has now taken over Cassandra's body, and a new life begins for Nadja.
