In this well-acted and entertaining film, John "Hombre" Russell (Paul Newman) is a White man raised by Apaches. He inherits property in the city and travels by stagecoach to trade the property. Passengers on the stagecoach, including Dr. Alex Faver (Fredric March) and his wife Audra (Barbara Rush), exhibit racial bias and force John to ride on top of the stagecoach. Cicero Grimes (Richard Boone) leads his bandits on a raid of the stagecoach, and they take Audra hostage. Now, it is only John who performs the ultimate sacrifice in leading the passengers to safety and rescuing Audra.
