All Quiet on the Western Front   1979     2 and a half stars    TV, 150 min.

Cast: Richard Thomas, Ernest Borgnine, Donald Pleasence, Ian Holm, Patricia Neal, Paul Mark Elliott, David Bradley, Mathew Evans, George Winter, Dominic Jephcott, Mark Drewry, Colin Mayes, Evan Stewart, Michael Sheard, Katerina Lirova

This remake of the 1930 classic is, in many respects, just as good. It tells the story of Paul Baumer (Richard Thomas) and his German classmates who are urged by their patriotic teacher Kantorek (Donald Pleasence) to enlist in the army during World War I. They do enlist, are trained by Corporal Himmelstoss (Ian Holm) and then head for the battlefield where they serve under Stanislaus Katczinsky (Ernest Borgnine). Many of Paul's friends are killed in battle, and after Paul stabs and kills a French soldier, he is convinced that fighting a war is not the patriotic game he believed it was. The film received seven Emmy nominations, including Best Supporting Actor and Actress (Borgnine and Patricia Neal for her role as Paul's mother).

1659 - 1685 personal life and tradegies of Charles IIjlgtink 06/14/2007
Exceptional performance by Rufus Sewell as King Charles II at the Restoration of the Monarchy to England after the 11 reign of the Commonwealth and Oliver Cromwell.

Focusing more on the personal relationships of Charles II with his Privy Council, friends, immediate family, Queen Catherine and mistresses, it is well written, historically accurate and entertaining.

Stellar performances from Rupert Graves, Shirley Henderson, Diana Riggs, McDiarmid and many others.

I saw this movie for the first time on the 21st Aug 2011 and could not move until the end brilliant British movie well made and an opportunity for the actors to just act no special effects I felt the loss the pain and the fear of a well made movie that can only demonstrate the reality of the world today. Compelling watch.
