Allison's friend Selena Cross (Hope Lange) is murdered, and Allison is there for Selena's stepfather's murder trial. The film received nine Academy Award nominations (but won none), including Best Picture, Actress (Lana Turner), Kennedy and Tamblyn for Supporting Actor, Lange and Varsi for Supporting Actress, and Director. Sequel: "Return to Peyton Place."
