Because he is an under-achiever, G.I. Joe Bauers (Luke Wilson) is chosen for the Pentagon Human Hibernation Project in which he is to be cryogenically frozen for one year. Problems develop, and it isn't until 500 years later that Joe and Rita are thawed out. Because stupid people now far outnumber intelligent people, Joe and Rita re-enter the world as the smartest people on the planet. Are they stuck in this new world, or will they be able to travel back those 500 years in time?
