They receive help from an "Emissary from the Future," Rufus (George Carlin), who allows the boys to travel through time in a bogus phone booth and encounter some excellent (pronounced "exxxxcellent") dudes ("deuds"). They meet Joan of Arc (Jane Wiedlin), Abe Lincoln (Robert V. Barron), Beethoven (Clifford David), and Napoleon (Terry Camilleri) and bring them back as eyewitnesses for their oral exam.

But her apparent double, or doppelganger, is also there, as is an FBI agent who is on her trail. Weird, with an unsatisfying ending.

Sheriff John Brady (Michael Murphy) investigates and, through his son Pete (Dan Shor) who had participated in mind-control experiments, finds that the murders appear to have started when Dr. LeSange (Arthur Dignam) ran the mind-control experiments in Parkinson's psychology department. But, LeSange is dead–or is he?–as Brady is about to find out. Special effects are well-executed.

This is the film adaptation of Flannery O'Connor's philosophical novel. The story traces the life of World War II veteran Hazel Motes (Brad Dourif) as he returns to his home in the Deep South and finds his parents' home boarded up. Searching for spiritual meaning, Hazel forms his own Church of Truth and, despite being the grandson of a religious zealot (John Huston), Hazel becomes the preacher in his Christ-less church. Excellent Huston fare.
