Following the car crash that killed their parents, 16-year-old Ruby (Leelee Sobieski) and her younger brother, Rhett (Trevor Morgan), are put in the care of legal guardians–Erin (Diane Lane) and Terry (Stellan Skarsgard) Glass. But, the children quickly learn that they have not moved into the home of caring, substitute parents. Instead, they are greeted with drug abuse, hints of perversion, eavesdropping, and isolation.
