This made-for-TV movie, consisting of five chapters, is based on Richard Russo's Pulitzer Prize winning novel in which Miles Roby (Ed Harris) manages the Empire Grill that is owned by the town matriarch (Joanne Woodward) in his blue-collar mill town in Maine. Miles feels his world is disintegrating because his wife, Janine (Helen Hunt), is divorcing him. He reflects on the state of his life, which also includes his not-so-kind father (Paul Newman) and his daughter (Danielle Panabaker), while his own life remains in limbo. Despite the despair, there is a message of love and hope that permeates this story.

Mr. Brooks is the "Thumbprint Killer," and no one has suspected him, not even his wife (Marg Helgenberger). Then, he kills a couple and is spotted by Mr. Smith (Dane Cook) who now wants in on the action. Meanwhile, the tenacious police detective Tracy Atwood (Demi Moore)–who has her own share of personal problems involving not only her family but escaped psycho killer "Hangman" (Matt Schultze) as well–has spent years tracking down the "Thumbprint Killer" and is still on his trail.

Jamie seems happy with her life, but if you take a look inside her private journal, you see her personal thoughts on the school and the people in it. In this journal, Jamie portrays herself as Isabella (Danielle Panabaker) who handles easily high school and the dreadful "populars," led by Myrna (Allison Scagliotti). All of the people in Jamie's life are included in this book, and Jamie is horrified to realize that part of this journal was accidentally turned in as a homework assignment. When her "essay" wins a contest, it is turned into a book and becomes a bestseller. Jamie is thrown into a life of fame and popularity. She has new friends, fans, and the cutest boy in school. But now Jamie has to decide whether being a bestselling author is worth losing her best friends. (Review by LW)

In a flash, Brittney's life becomes anything but boring when she bumps into Jordan's assistant, and, unnoticed by either, her cell phone is switched with Jordan's. Brittney and Natasha take charge of Jordan's life, using the cell phone to change his look. But they are in over their heads as they realize when they almost get Jordan's best friend fired!
