This is a story about ambition gone berserk. Obsessed with gaining fame, TV personality Suzanne Stone (Nicole Kidman) is upset when her husband Larry (Matt Dillon) wants her to give up her TV career and start a family. She prepares a documentary, "Teens Speak Out," through which she works with teenagers Jimmy (Joaquin Phoenix), Russell (Casey Affleck), and Lydia (Alison Folland). Then she hatches a plot: seduce Jimmy and get him to kill Larry–knowing that the tabloids will cover the story and bring her the notoriety she dreams of. But, of course, more than a few problems ensue that end up with her downfall.
