The film received four Academy Award nominations including Torn for Best Supporting Actor and Woodard for Best Supporting Actress.

All of this culminates in the camcorder thief selling erotic pictures of Ellen and then Ellen being kidnapped by other thieves. By the vacation's end, the Griswold family is very happy to return to American soil.
