  Adapted from Mary Roberts Rinehart's novel, this is the story of mystery writer Cornelia Van Gorder's (Agnes Moorehead) experiences after she rents a country mansion in which one million dollars in securities are hidden. A hooded killer "The Bat" wants those securities and will murder anyone who gets in his way. Mysterious and dangerous events ensue as the local police detective (Gavin Gordon) investigates–but there is more to the detective than meets the eye.

Followed in 1937 by "Navy Spy," The Gold Racket," and "Bank Alarm."
