Lindsay Anderson brings his play to the screen with the original cast in this intense story of a family brought together for a 40th wedding anniversary of the Shaws (Bill Owen and Constance Chapman) in a coal-mining town in England. Their three sons–Steven, Andrew, and Colin (Brian Cox, Alan Bates, and James Bolam) have done well in life, at least better than most in this town, but the relationships of the brothers become strained during the visit.
