This 3-D animated adventure begins with bride Susan Murphy ( voice of Reese Witherspsoon) preparing for her wedding to TV weatherman Derek Dietl (voice of Paul Rudd). Outside the church, Susan is hit by a meteor, and, instantly, she begins to grow to the enormous size of 50 feet tall. Military helicopters arrive on the scene, swoop her up, and deliver her to a government prison for monsters. Susan is given the new name of Ginormica (voice of Witherspoon), and is welcomed by the other imprisoned monsters–insect-headed Dr. Cockroach (voice of Hugh Laurie), blobish B.O.B. (voice of Seth Rogen), and half-human/half-fish Missing Link (voice of Will Arnett)–welcome her. Susan is doomed to spend her life in the prison–until an evil alien, Galaxhar (voice of Rainn Wilson), threatens to conquer Earth. Now, Gen. W.R. Monger (voice of Kiefer Sutherland) convinces the President (voice of Stephen Colbert) to promise the monsters their freedom if they can defeat Galaxhar and his army of clones and robots.

Honeymooners Shrek (voice of Mike Myers) and Princess Fiona (voice of Cameron Diaz) are summoned by Fiona's parents, the King (voice of John Cleese) and Queen (voice of Julie Andrews). So, with Donkey (voice of Eddie Murphy) in tow, they trudge to the Kingdom of Far, Far Away. The King and Queen are shocked to learn that their daughter is married to an ogre and that she has become one too. It doesn't take long for Fairy Godmother (voice of Jennifer Saunders) to send that delightful killer cat, Puss In Boots (voice of Antonio Banderas), on a mission to get rid of Shrek so that Fiona will marry Fairy Godmother's son, Prince Charming (voice of Rupert Everett). But plans go awry, and, by story's end, Puss In Boots is working with Shrek instead of against him. The film received two Academy Award nominations, including Best Animated Feature.
