This caveman saga has excellent special effects depicting the dangers encountered by early humans inhabiting Earth. The story is told by an archaeologist (Conrad Nagel) as he interprets the paintings on the wall of a cave. Tumak (Victor Mature) is a member of the uncivilized Rock Tribe that is led by his father, Akhoba (Lon Chaney Jr.). When Tumak is exiled, he is taken in by the civilized Shell Tribe where he meets and falls in love with Loana (Carole Landis). After a fight, Tumak is exiled, and Loana joins him on the trek back to the Rock Tribe's cave where she teaches them civilization. When a volcano erupts, the two tribes join in a fight for survival. Remade as "One Million Years B.C." in 1966.
