When Georges (Gerard Depardieu, in his U.S. film debut) wants to start a new life in the U.S., he needs a Green Card to work. Bronte (Andie MacDowell), an avid horticulturalist, wants to move into an apartment with a greenhouse, but she must be married to do so. Both people can be satisfied by a marriage of convenience. When the authorities question Georges' marriage, the two must actually move in together. Love blooms.
