| Atmospheric and well done. | Mark Davidson 06/27/2009 |
| A favorite for decades. It's an English 1950's sci-fi movie. So story, rather than special effects, is the main strength of the picture. One special effect sequence (planes bombing) is poor, but the balance is fairly well done. The story is very good, the characters are intelligent, and the acting is realistic and excellent. The movie starts as a mystery with horror overtones that, with discovery and disclosure of a back story, turns into a sci-fi "reasoning-alien" monster movie. Beautiful Janet Munro becomes telepathically linked to "something" in the Swiss Alps that has a purpose. On 1-10 scale: Story and acting = 7; monster/creature = 6 special effects, for English mid-50s = 5. Overall = 6.5-7 (I like it). Up there with the Quartermass movies. |
