  Boris Karloff plays Frankenstein's monster in this "father of horror films." When Frankenstein's fiancee Elizabeth (Mae Clarke) arrives at his laboratory with Victor (John Boles) and Dr. Waldman (Edward Van Sloan), they find an eerie scene and a totally changed Frankenstein obsessed with the creation of his monster.

Jane, at last, is happy, but that all changes when she hears unexplained screams at night and learns that Edward's insane wife Bertha (Claire Du Brey) is hidden in a room of the house. Meanwhile, Edward falls in love with Jane and asks her to marry him, but Bertha ruins their plans, and Jane moves away. Later, Bertha sets fire to the house, and Edward is blinded by the fire. When Jane learns about the fire, she returns to Edward and convinces him that she loves him.

Break Out Film for James Whale and Colin Clive!joy 10/02/2009 
  This is a true "lost gem" that is worthy of a place in cinema history. It was the first Anglo-American film production, and brought both James Whale and Colin Clive to Hollywood. Clive actually left the SRO play in London for the 6 week shooting schedule. The film is an excellent re-telling of the Sherriff play. A play about the misery and waste of war, and the loss of a whole generation of young men of all countries. I won't deny that "JOURNEY'S END" is "old".. It is 80 years old, and because is is extremely rare to find a viewing copy, you will probably get a lot of snaps, crackles and pops.. Watch it as a testiment to when movies were young, and give thanks that it brought a legendary director and a brilliant young actor to Hollywood and fame.
