The final 12 hours and crucifixion of Jesus Christ are depicted in this film, which begins with Jesus (James Caviezel) praying after the Last Supper. He is severely beaten and forced to carry his cross to the hill near Jerusalem where he is crucified, dies, and is buried but resurrects from the dead on the third day. The film received three Academy Award nominations.
