Based on William Trevor's novel, this film revolves around the fate of an Irish girl, Felicia (Elaine Cassidy), who leaves her home to search for her boyfriend, Johnny Lysaght (Peter McDonald). Felicia arrives in Birmingham and soon falls into the clutches of the diabolical Joseph Ambrose Hilditch (Bob Hoskins) who has befriended and murdered many young women in the past and sees Felicia as his newest victim.
