Edward accuses Travis of rape–a crime punishable by hanging–and Travis finds himself on trial for his life because of racial bigotry.

Through compromise, Wilberforce continues his work over the years, and his crusade is suspenseful because, despite physical disabilities, Wilberforce will not renege on his dream.

Meanwhile, Nan falls for Simon (Colin Firth) who gets her pregnant and then dumps her. Nan plans to get Jack drunk and then claim that he is the father. Eve, who has fallen for Aidan (Aidan Gillen), catches on to Nan's plot and reveals all, which allows Jack and Benny to continue their romance.

After returning from the Crusades, a disguised Ivanhoe finds himself in the middle of Prince John's efforts to replace Richard (Rory Edwards) as king of England. Ivanhoe enters a tournament to win back the love of Rowena (Victoria Smurfit). He wins the tournament but is injured, and is nursed back to health by Rebecca (Susan Lynch) with whom he falls in love. More problems lie ahead when Rebecca is condemned as a witch and is sentenced to be burned at the stake. Ivanhoe rescues Rebecca, but will he be able to restore Richard to the throne?

Thus, the stage is set for a life-long conflict between Eli and his preaching vs. Daniel and his oil drilling. Academy Awards were received for Best Actor (Day-Louis) and Cinematography; seven other nominations were also received including Best Picture and Director.
