Thus, he began a rigorous, scientific training program to be the first man to run a mile in under four minutes with tough Archie Mason (Christopher Plummer) as his trainer.

Project director Dr. Andrews (Walter Pidgeon) calls on Commander Adrian Blake (Ben Gazzara), skipper of an experimental deep-sea rescue vessel, to rescue the Sealab team. Joining Blake on the mission are "Mack" McKay (Ernest Borgnine), Bob Cousins (Donnelly Rhodes), and scientist Leah Jansen (Yvette Mimieux) who happens to be the fiancee of Hamilton.
