Timid librarian Betty Lou (Penelope Ann Miller) endures many woes: a whining sister; a fundraiser she is heading that is getting out of control; and, worst of all, a cop husband, Alex (Eric Thal), who is too busy investigating a murder to come home for their wedding anniversary dinner. So, when Betty Lou finds the murder weapon while walking the dog and can't get hold of Alex, she turns herself in as the murderess in order to get attention. During detention, her cellmate provides some assertiveness training, and the fun really begins. Miller's performance saves this otherwise so-so film.
