  Japanese soldiers commanded by Lt. Kuroki (Tatsuya Mihashi) are stranded on an island during World War II when an American bomber crash lands on the island. The American crewmen survive the crash, and Chief Pharmacist's Mate Maloney (Frank Sinatra) saves the life of a Japanese soldier. Now a truce is called, but the truce is only temporary, and after the Americans fix their radio the battle continues.

  John Baron (Frank Sinatra) and his two thugs arrive in the sleepy town of Suddenly to kill the President of the U.S. who is scheduled for a short train stop in the town. John takes the Benson family (James Gleason, Nancy Gates, and Kim Charney) and the town's sheriff, Tod Shaw (Sterling Hayden), hostage in a house that overlooks the train station–a strategic place for the assassination. As the time for the arrival nears, John gets loonier and loonier. Good film noir.
