Now, honest lawyer Kirkland tries to find justice in the court system while also trying to make the system work. Pacino earned a Best Actor Oscar nomination.

The last nine months of Gilmore's life are the basis for this story. Gilmore is 35 years old when he is released from prison for armed robbery. He tries to go straight and fails. After killing two men during separate robberies, Gilmore is sentenced to death in Utah. Jones won the Emmy for his very believable performance as the villainous Gilmore.

As he recovers, Hatch suffers hallucinations and sees through psychopath Vassago's (Jeremy Sisto) eyes. Vassago also experiences events in Hatch's life and is plotting to capture Regina and use her for a sacrifice. The interrogation centered around her work as a gynecologist who performed morally questionable abortions at Auschwitz in an effort to save pregnant women from the gas chambers.

His best friend, Bruce (Paul Reiser), thinks it is because Michael reminds her of her father. It also comes to light that his other friends seem to be having similar problems with their wives. So, why not go to a strip joint? Michael and Bruce go, and, of course, Dana follows them, reports back to Bruce's wife (Glenne Headly), and the two await the men's return. When they arrive, bickering continues. But, of course, all things get patched up–eventually.
