Also serving with Dan on the assignment are Tucker (Kevin Durand) who burned down Ben's barn, railroad boss Grayson Butterfield (Dallas Roberts), Pinkerton agent Byron McElroy (Peter Fonda), and Dan's teenage son William. As Dan and Ben match wits along the trek, they also encounter problems with Apaches and Ben's gang–led by Charlie Prince (Ben Foster)–on what turns out to be a dangerous journey to catch the 3:10 to Yuma. Finally, there is the reclusive Billy (Richard Gere) who finds sanctuary in a tiny Missouri town that is on the verge of being turned into a superhighway. Together, the characters represent roles that Dylan played during his lifetime, and the result is an enjoyable film. Blanchett received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
