This made-for-TV Western is based on Elmore Leonard's novel about Confederate soldier Paul Cable's (Tom Selleck) struggles to adapt to a peaceful life in Arizona following the Civil War. Upon his return to Arizona with his family–wife Martha (Suzy Amis) and children Clare and Davis (Rachel Duncan and Haley Joel Osment)–Cable finds that his homestead has been taken over by Union sympathizers. He teams up with Vern Kidson (Keith Carradine) to gain peace in the community for his family to enjoy.
