When a runt piglet, Babe (voice of Christine Cavanaugh), is saved by Farmer Hoggett (James Cromwell), the pig is brought to a farm where animals communicate with each other in a common language. Taken in by a sheepdog mother (voice of Magda Szubanski), Babe learns that even though it is permissible to play with the puppies, he cannot herd sheep. Babe proves them wrong and learns that simply talking nicely gets desired results from the other animals in this fairy tale environment. The film won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects and was nominated for several others including Best Picture, Director, and Supporting Actor (James Cromwell).
